Our recent benchmark study evaluated the performance of the new AWS r8g instances, powered by the Graviton4 processors, against their r6g & r7g predecessors. The new r8g series not only expands the catalog significantly, offering configurations up to 192 vCPUs and 1536GB of RAM, but also delivers improved performance across all tested metrics. This includes computational power, memory bandwidth, and I/O operations, aligning with AWS's claims of enhanced capabilities with the Graviton4 architecture.

However, these performance gains come at a notable cost. The new r8g instances are priced significantly higher than the r7g series. While the performance boost may justify the expense for demanding workloads, cost-sensitive users need to weigh the benefits against the increased expenditure. This balance between performance and cost is crucial for optimizing resource allocation and maximizing return on investment in cloud infrastructure.
