OVHcloud Backup Agent
Backup Agent offers a managed, offsite backup solution purpose-built for Bare Metal servers. Designed for simplicity and speed, it deploys in minutes and automatically protects Linux and Windows environments with daily incremental backups. Vault creation and lifecycle management are fully managed by OVHcloud, ensuring top-notch data sovereignty.
AWS Backup
Offers a fully managed, policy-based service that centralizes data protection across AWS resources and on-premises environments. For VM users, it integrates deeply with VMware vSphere, allowing you to protect on-premises VMs or those in VMware Cloud on AWS using a local "Backup Gateway." This gateway discovers VMs, creates incremental, encrypted snapshots, and stores them in secure vaults. Notably, AWS Backup also supports "VM-to-EC2" restoration, allowing you to recover an on-premises VM directly as a cloud-native instance, which is a powerful tool for disaster recovery and migration.
Azure Backup
Provides a comprehensive ecosystem for protecting both cloud-native and on-premises environments, with a specific focus on Windows and Linux virtual machines and Bare Metal servers. A key differentiator for Azure is its deep integration with Windows Server which allows for a granular hierarchy of recovery: from individual files to the full System State (Active Directory, Registry) and finally a full Bare Metal image.
Google Backup
Modern, unified service that focuses on "incremental-forever" data protection. It is particularly strong in hybrid scenarios, using a local Backup/Recovery Appliance to manage on-premises VMware and physical databases while moving data to Google Cloud Storage. The standout feature is its Instant Mount capability; instead of waiting for a long restoration process for large VMs or databases, you can mount the backup data directly onto a host for near-instant access, which significantly reduces Recovery Time Objectives
Google’s solution leans heavily into Disaster Recovery (DR) orchestration, allowing you to not only back up a machine but also automate the failover and failback of entire environments between on-premises and the cloud.
Acronis Backup
Designed specifically to bridge the gap between physical bare-metal servers and diverse virtual environments. Unlike cloud-native tools, Acronis uses a specialized "Universal Restore" technology that allows you to take a full image-level backup of a physical machine and restore it directly to completely different hardware or even convert it into a VM on any major hypervisor (VMware, Hyper-V, Virtuozzo, etc.).
Its architecture is built on a hybrid-cloud model: you can store backups locally for near-instant recovery using Acronis Instant Restore while simultaneously vaulting a copy in the cloud for disaster recovery.
